Hullo! Happy to speak to you all. I am here with a video on the end of chapter five of ‘Ripples Roping Memories’

The school celebrates Christmas. Lakshmi, Dafny Williams, Pratima Hegde and the whole team of girls prepare christmas crib. It is all hay, dolls, cotton, streamers, balloons and colours. The best crib in the school gets the prize. There is jubilation in the class which wins the competition.

Pratima Hegde sings a serious Hindi song. The song goes like this. ‘ Ohohre taal mile nadi kay jal mein, nadi mile sagar mein…..’ Another classmate is Geeta who is wide-eyed, beautiful, studious and has a delicate smile. Selvi and Malvi are twins who have shifted from Ukoor. They are good at studies. Rani admires Rekha Iyer who is tall, slim and fair and has a smiling face. Miss Floria who never married lives in the convent. She is always busy correcting English composition books. Being devoted, she teaches students to write essays and letters. She takes rounds and observes what each student is doing. If mistakes are committed, she directs the students to write. She is a real teacher with a real feeling! Mrs. Kulkarni takes great care to see that students write Marathi spellings properly. It is known as Shuddha Lekhan. Students are asked to keep the text books in front of them and copy answers to questions along with spellings of words and formation of sentences from the textbook. One of the poems in the text book has been rendered into a song. It describes the plight of an illiterate woman trying to communicate to her parents in the bygone days. The song goes like this, ‘Ghal ghal pinga varya majhya parasat, Maherija suvasachi kar barasat……’

Sister Sharon talks of women who stick on to tradition even when they are tortured by their husbands and in laws. She is bewildered by the self sacrificing attitude of these women. Women are able to put up with severe circumstances. Sister says, ‘ There is nothing called mohobbat. It is Mahabharat.’ Christian children study Catholicism and others learn Moral science. Hasina Shaikh, Rani’s classmate is hefty and tall. Sister provides a place for her to offer namaaz. A teacher teaches Hindi bhajans to infuse in children importance of God. The bhajan goes like this, ‘Om tat sat Shri Narayana tu, Purushottama guru tu……’
